How much originality is left from 400+ year old paintings?
For the majority, after they've been moved, stored, displayed and cleaned countless times, along with been misused, repaired, vandalized, painted over and exposed to numerous mistreatments...
Answer: Not much !
And how is that for millennia old Stained Glass?
Stained Glass simply cannot withstand the abuse Paintings can. When Stained Glass is dropped, it’s mostly gone. So the very few that are still extant have been extremely lucky.
The mere fact that glass does not deteriorate, keeps the image axiomatic original.
Answer: Totally Original !
This also explains why the number of 16ᵗʰ Century solitary Stained Glass portraits are far and few between.
